Bowling Buddies

With the exception of Sarah's blood-drawing incident with the ball return machine (ouch!) this went surprisingly well!

A Field Trip of Olympic Proportions

How often do the Olympics come to your home city? Almost never. How often do we get a week of sunshine in February? Almost never. So to celebrate both rarities we joined the herd of thousands and spent a day soaking up all that energy...and Vitamin D!
We (barely) managed to fit on a train to take us downtown, and spent a good while underground before the crowd finally spat us out in the middle of it all....and - much to Liam's delight - about 30' away from Grandma and Grandpa!
First stop: The Olympic Cauldron...

From there it was pretty much a day of waiting in lines and ogling lines that were even longer than the lines we were already in. But the spirit was undeniable and the kids coped with everything really well (big shout out to Grandma and Grandpa for their supporting roles!). We even set a new personal parenting record: OUT UNTIL 10PM WITH TWO KIDS! Anyone know where can we pick up our medals?
Snacks are a must-have for waiting in lines....

After an hour or two of lines, this was the best (make that ONLY) seat in the house!

That would be the Stanley Cup over a slightly-dazed Liam's shoulder.....

Kissing a melting polar bear ice sculpture....

Bobsleigh Gold Medalist, 2030 games?

10-fer Tuesday

1) I find it interesting that every holiday becomes a Super Big Deal (yes, with capitals!) as soon as there are preschoolers in the midst. I think it's just so that caregivers can squeeze every last drop out of the seasonal craft activities. And so the kids can squeeze every last drop out of the glitter pens.

2) We made some gluten free (and vegan!) carrot muffins last week. Our most successful foray into gf baking yet. Liam enjoyed them in both baked and not-so-baked form. :)

3) Guess what we lost - and found - on a recent stroll? Still can't keep those things on!

4) Sarah is getting her immunizations tomorrow morning: 1 in each arm, 1 in each leg. I'm wondering if I should take my 4 shots before or after I'm done pinning Sarah down for hers?

5) I'm pretty sure every little girl in his kindergarten class is going to have a crush on him:

6) The Olympics start in 3 days. The kids have been practicing their flag-waving. Liam has a few new lines (ok, words) of the anthem memorized. Go Team Canada!

7) In their first team effort, the kids have managed to destroy the first page of a brand new library book. They have access to scads of books every single day, and they have never torn a page. Go Team Destruction!..... sigh........

8) Liam is busting at the seams to try gum. I have no idea why he is so intrigued but he has asked me if he's big enough to have some gum every day for about a month now. I'm still trying to get him to spit the toothpaste in the sink when brushing his teeth....when he stops swallowing it I may consider a Gum Party.

9) Sarah ate some red jell-o tonight. It was her first introduction to gelatin and she thought all that wiggling on her tray was pretty hilarious. Lots of giggles...and even more stains!

10) I am training for the Sun Run with a group of other moms. We went for our first run today and based on past stroller experience and the mood with which he started the day, I was pretty sure Liam was going to be a brat. Out of 20 jogging strollers, 19 were filled with happy, napping babies. Not mine. Liam was belting out Raffi's "Must Be Santa" and Sarah screamed at Level 10 for 20 minutes until either Liam's singing or the motion of the stoller put her to sleep! Liam kept singing with one hand gently resting on her head.
Liam: 1 Sarah: 0 Mommy: 2 (Because I'm the Mom, that's why! I love saying that.....)

Ten Things Tuesday - The Wednesday Edition

It hasn't been the greatest week on record, so I'm trying to redirect some of my focus to the fabulous things that get lost in the shuffle (of baby puke, as happens to be the case this week).

1) My kiddos. Okay, they never get lost in the shuffle. They're much too loud for that! But they are pretty awesome and I'm the luckiest mama ever to get to spend my days with them. Even if I am currently wondering why I am so sticky....

2) My one True Love. Wherever he is (and sometimes he is very, very far) I know he would rather be right here. Knee deep in the vomit trench. That's just the kind of guy he is.

3) My other True Love(s). Don't ask me to choose. Five years on, I still get butterflies...

4) Liam made a decision today and he stuck with it. Doesn't sound like much, but trust me this is pretty big! The best part is what he decided: Thomas the Train or Elmo/Cookie Monster underwear. He chose Thomas. Enjoy your new undies, buddy. Choo Choooo!

5) The kids' first silly photobooth session. (Did you know they take Visa now?!)

6) My bluetooth case arrived in the mail today. It looks like a blue tooth. Come on, you know you want one too. :)

7) Wednesday is Garbage Day and nothing lights up my little boy's face like a big stinky garbage truck outside the window. BONUS: The Recycling truck comes this week too! Oh, joy!

8) Even though Sarah's cough is utterly nasty and usually followed by an arc of vomit, she pats her chest like Little Miss Dainty when she is done.

9) Leftovers. And hot chocolate. Not necessarily together.

10) Our fridge is covered in icky sticky kid crafts, with a pair of dinosaur-laden Valentines taking up a spot front and center.

I guess it's not such a bad week after all.....

Sick. Again.

This poor little girl hasn't had much of a break the last few weeks. Neither has my washing machine, if you know what I mean.

If I could knock-on-wood and type at the same time I would, but so far Liam has been too busy adding to his portfolio of funny faces to get under the weather.

And here is proof that even with all the toy fights and "Sarah bit me!" announcements that are the soundtrack of our lives....there is a glimmer of hope! A blurry one, but who said glimmers were always in focus, anyway? :)
